Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. She was was raised in Barcelona. Her diverse musical style has earned her the status of "atypical pop star". Her passion for music was ignited by Spanish folk music at the age of 13 years old. She was a musicologist at Catalonia College of Music and was also a wedding singer. Reimagining flamenco by mixing it with hip hop and pop music, the project produced the singles "Malamente" and "Pienso en the Mirror" which attracted the attention of the Spanish general public, and released to widespread reviews. El Mal Querer, who was awarded the Latin Grammy Award as Album of the Year and is listed in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time has paved the way for her rise into the international music scene. Rosalia has explored urbano music with her 2019 releases "Con Altura", and "Yo Ti Tu x Mi", has achieved worldwide success. She gave reggaeton an innovative approach to her third album Motomami (2022) which departed from the new flamenco style of the previous album. With the singles "La Fama"" and "Saoko" the album was a big success across the globe and was deemed to be the most well-reviewed album of the year by Metacritic. Rosalia has had ten top one singles in her home country in the span of her entire career. This is the highest number she's ever had local artists. Rosalia has received eleven Latin Grammy Awards, two Grammy Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards as well as four MTV Europe Music Awards, three UK Music Video Awards, and two Premio Ruido Awards. Billboard presented her with the Rising Star Award in 2019 for "changing the sound of mainstream music with her flamenco-inspired pop"[18[18]. She was also the first singing Spanish artist to win a nomination at the Grammys for Best New Artist.
Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. Born in a family with no artistic background She is the eldest daughter of Pilar Tobella, a businesswoman who manages a small family business which specializes in metalworks. Jose Manuel Vila, her father was born in Cudillero. The couple divorced in the year 2019. [23] She has an older sister, Pilar "Pili" Vila (born 1989) who is working alongside Rosalia as her stylist and creative director. Rosalia was fascinated by performing arts from the age of five. She discovered the discography of Camaron De la Isla. She began her musical education at the Taller de Musics [es]. She completed a six-year course in the academy. She began attending class at the Raval school, and then transferred to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. In addition, she was an individual singer, performing at weddings and in bars with musical music. She was compensated "a little more than 80 euros" or in exchange for dinner. Rosalia also met many underground Spanish performers during this time like La Zowi (Yung Beef), Kaydy Cain and Hinds.
