April Ross
April Ross is one of the few female beach volleyball athletes who have won medals in multiple Olympics. Alix-Klineman will compete with Ross at Tokyo for her third gold medal over the coming days. Ross's dream is to earn her first Olympic Gold. In fact, at 39, it could be her last opportunity to accomplish this. Her optimism is that she'll be successful in achieving top honours. Ross was reported in NBC Boston as saying that if you play your top, even if you do well, we'll get the gold. "I'm also going to try a little luck." Ross was born in 1982 and lived in Costa Mesa California with her sister and parents, began competing in sports at Newport Harbor High school. She went on to compete in numerous activities at Newport Harbor High School. Her pre-athletic career comprised indoor volleyball as well as basketball, track and running. But she stood out at this level. During her high school career she played middle blocker outside hitter and setter on the volleyball court per her bio at the college. She was awarded the Gatorade National Circle of Champions player of the year in 1999 for her achievements. The year 2000 was the time she received her the Orange County Athlete of the of the year for volleyball. Ross is currently playing alongside Klineman since the year 2017, but Ross's beach game was established well before the year. The American has been a major winner in events twice, with various partners. One of them is an iconic player in the world of volleyball. For six years from 2007 until 2013, she was a team together with Jennifer Kessy who more recently served as her and Klineman's coach. Kessy was Ross's partner on the 2009 World Championships. In the 2012 Olympic Games, they won the gold medal. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the team to beat out for gold. Ross Jennings took over for May-Treanor after she announced her retirement. They both went on to take home the bronze beach volleyball trophy at the Rio Olympics 2016. They were joined by Walsh Jennings. Ross started her college professional career playing for the Trojans of USC after graduation from high school. It was a long time before Ross made her debut on the beach and became a pro. She had a great run through college. She was a All-American as well as Pac-10 Freshman of Year when she was a teen freshman. She also helped the Trojans to make it to the Final Four. During her sophomore year she was devastated by a personal setback, but she was able to repeat as an All-American. In her last two seasons with the Trojans team the team was led to victories by winning consecutive national championships. Ross was an excellent volleyball player, winning the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the best female volleyball player in the NCAA. Ross played international relations as a student at USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, never had the chance to watch her daughter become a beach volleyball superstar. In 2001 when Ross was a sophomore studying at USC her mother died of breast cancer. But, she will always hold her lost parent near and close. Margie at the beach as well as in her everyday life, is still a source of inspiration for her.
